Our Focus Communities
Adivasi (Tribal Communities)
Indigenous forest-dwelling communities preserving traditional knowledge and livelihoods while facing modern challenges of displacement and marginalization.
Alemari (Nomadic Communities)
Historically mobile communities seeking stable livelihoods and social inclusion while preserving their unique cultural heritage and traditions.
Vimukta (Denotified Tribes)
Communities once labeled "criminal tribes" under colonial law, now striving for dignity, equal opportunities, and freedom from historical stigma.
Budakattu (Local Tribal Groups)
Region-specific tribal groups of North Karnataka with unique cultural identities and development needs requiring specialized interventions.
Our Philosophy
We believe that real development happens when communities lead their own transformation. Our approach is participatory, respectful of cultural identities, and focused on building sustainable systems rather than providing temporary solutions.
The Beginning
How a shared vision for community empowerment became a movement for change.
AAVBS was founded by a group of social activists, community leaders, and concerned citizens who recognized the persistent development gaps faced by tribal and nomadic communities in the region. Despite various government schemes and development programs, our founders observed critical issues that demanded immediate attention.
The Catalyst
- Many marginalized communities remained unaware of their fundamental rights
- Access to quality education and healthcare was severely limited
- Economic opportunities were scarce, trapping families in cycles of poverty
- Social stigma and discrimination persisted despite legal protections
- Cultural identities were eroding without adequate support systems
Our Founding Principle
"Nothing about us, without us"
This principle ensures community participation in every aspect of planning, implementation, and evaluation. We are facilitators of change, not directors. The communities we serve are the true agents of their own development.
